When to choose which ski helmet?

SINNER ski helmets can be roughly divided into three different versions:

• Softshell ski helmets feature the so-called In-Mold technology, which means that the soft inner shell is glued directly to the hard outer shell. A softshell ski helmet is characterized by its light weight and is mainly used by recreational winter sports enthusiasts.
• Hardshell ski helmets also called ABS ski helmets, on the other hand, do have space between the soft inside and the hard outside. This type of ski helmets therefore offers the best protection from impact. A hardshell ski helmet is a bit heavier than a softshell model, but indispensable for advanced skiers and snowboarders who like to go off-piste.
• Hybrid ski helmets combine the best features of softshell and hardshell ski helmets. These versions are used by both recreational and professional skiers and snowboarders.

Which ski helmet fits me?

In addition to standard ski helmets worn in combination with ski goggles, we also offer ski helmets with visor. These are ideal because you no longer need separate ski goggles. You can also order separate helmet visors for all ski helmet models. The best color helmet visor to use depends on the weather conditions. In clear weather and bright sunshine you need a visor with a dark lens. Cloudy weather, fog and/or snow require a visor with a brightening effect, in which case you choose a visor with a light colored lens. Matching your ski helmet visor to the weather conditions will ensure the best vision and prevent your eyes from getting tired. It is therefore definitely recommended to have an extra visor for your ski helmet on hand.

Are ski helmets mandatory?

Although it is not mandatory for adults to wear a ski helmet anywhere as of yet, it is advised. Not only for your safety, but also to set a good example for children. In many popular ski resorts it is compulsory for children to wear a ski helmet; those who do not comply risk hefty fines. In Italy a ski helmet is compulsory for children up to 14 years, in Poland up to 16 years. In Austria, with the exception of some areas, helmets are required up to the age of 15.

How do you know if your ski helmet fits?

The right ski helmet size is crucial for both your safety and comfort. We therefore recommend always measuring your head circumference before placing your order. On our page with information about ski helmet technology you can read how to do that and how to determine the right ski helmet size. If after receiving your new ski helmet you find that you need a different size, you can return your purchase within 14 days. Very convenient, isn't it?
